Enterprise Ecommerce for Top-Shelf Wholesale Brands

Blue Pheasant Logo, Made Goods, LEXIM Ecommerce Web Design & ERPWorking with companies with big needs when it comes to ecommerce is our specialty at LEXIM. In the case of Blue Pheasant, this      was just one of many Made Goods wholesaler brands. They don’t like to use the word wholesale, preferring “to the trade”. So the i  individual site has to integrate with their ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software that manages all of their brands and product lines.. All inventory, orders, and new customer registration made on the new ecommerce site, developed on Magento, have to sync to the ERP daily. But all the customer data and orders are captured by the Magento site.

ERP Integration- Enterprise Resource Planning

ERP integration is key for large manufacturers that use software to track, communicate, and operate almost every facet of their business. They track orders, inventory, sales figures, and even provide internal communications. Not to mention reporting functions for key stakeholders outside of the company. An ERP is often an amalgamation of various apps, so those all have to work together.

Lexim had create a module that communicated between Magento and the Sage ERP system.

Web Development for Wholesale Ecommerce

As web developers we focus on solutions. Made Goods needed to ensure that what seemed like a simple ecommerce site was actually a wholesale relationship management tool. Users weren’t just shopping as they would at a normal ecommerce site. Instead, they were applying to become approved retailers of company known for outstanding manufactured goods and forward-thinking design.

Apps Developed as Real Solutions to Real Problems

As the result of our work with Made Goods we might have a great custom software module or app on our hands. We were able to create solutions for product sync, customer sync, and interface between Magento and Sage. Other customers just might find that useful. The lesson here is that web development can expand beyond the current project to help others with similar problems. At LEXIM we are always keeping an eye out for ways to share what we learn on individual web & mobile development projects.

Here’s a little more about the platforms we were working with.

Magento

1418614449magento-ecommerce-square-logoMagento is a favorite for ecommerce development. Yes, it is a bit complex and will take maintenance from a developer in most cases. However, once trained the site content, SEO, and products can be managed from a CMS by the company itself. Magento has good SEO functions built in allowing online retailers and wholesalers to customize Titles & Meta Descriptions and edit the html code of each page if necessary. Visual editors allow users who don’t know code to get in there and sell too.

Sage

sage softwareSage is an ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) software system used by companies of mid to large size, engaged in manufacturing and distribution of products. Sage can manage sales functions, accounting, customer relationship management (CRM),  and even HR & payroll.  Using an ERP can improve productivity, efficiency, and communication with customers and key stakeholders.

ERP software is a big investment. But the payoff can be big too. One thing to be aware of when investing in an ERP is the need to integrate is with all the other software you use so that separate operations, products, and people in your organization don’t operate in a silo.

Good web developers can help, but they need the overall understanding of your business. Manufacturing, retail, and distribution based industries have special needs that not all developers are prepared to service. At LEXIM we’ve helped fashion wholesalers, home goods manufacturers, large-scale international product packaging companies, and more.
